El Salvador's President, Nayib Bukele, has slammed a group of US Senators who have requested an investigation into the hazards associated with his country's adoption of Bitcoin as legal cash.

This happened on February 16th, after Senators Jim Risch (R-Idaho), Bob Menendez, and Bill Cassidy introduced the Accountability for Cryptocurrency in El Salvador (ACES) Act, which requires a State Department report on El Salvador's adoption of Bitcoin, a digital currency as legal tender, as well as a plan to mitigate potential risks to the US financial system.

They pointed out that adopting Bitcoin as legal tender in El Salvador opens the door to money laundering cartels and harms US interests, among other things. They also expressed concern that accepting Bitcoin will weaken the US government's sanctions policy and encourage criminal organizations to engage in more activity.

In a tweet, El Salvador's president, Nayib Bukele, warned them to quit interfering in his country.

He wrote:

"OK boomers... You have 0 jurisdictions over a sovereign and independent nation. We are not your colony, your back yard, or your front yard.

Stay out of our internal affairs.

Don’t try to control something you can’t control"

El Salvador was the first government in the world to utilize cryptocurrencies as its official currency, alongside the US dollar, a move that has sparked outrage from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Economists and the opposition have questioned the Salvadoran government's failure to be transparent in the process of purchasing and handling Bitcoins, which it has done since September.
